An Empathy Map is a way to develop a deeper understanding of your clients, your customers or yourself. The concept originated at the Institute of Design at Stanford University as a way to help designers develop empathy for people they were designing for. By understanding our clients, customers or even ourself we can synthesise observations and develop insights and deliver well-formed solutions to their problems and goals.
The attached PDF is a worksheet you can distribute to your clients. It has been modified for use in client work. The Empathy Map will compliment psychotherapy, counselling, addiction therapy, hypnotherapy and is suitable for most client goals including weight management, quitting smoking, phobias, drug or food addiction, gambling addiction and other common challenges.
